Then, the high pressure jet stream is squeezed down to 30 thousandths of an inch (0.030 inch) wide, the thickness of 10 sheets of writing paper. The machine guiding this jet is computer controlled to an accuracy of 0.010 inch. The force of the intensely focused water can cut materials like steel, bronze, glass and marble as thick as 4 inches and as large as 6 feet wide and 12 feet long.
