FHM-I Student Handbook

Note: The sample that follows is taken from the FHM-I Student Handbook.
This is an outline of an audiotaped presentation entitled, “Physical Healing”.
All taped presentations in the FHM Program are accompanied by a similar student outline.

PHYSICAL HEALING

Goals of this audiotaped presentation:

God's activity in physical healing.

A. Two biblical explanations:

1. Fall-Redemption spirituality.

a. Creation is fallen from grace.
b. God delivers from sin.

2. Creation-centered spirituality

a. Creation shares God's life.
b. God's activity is one of blessing.
c. Healing is removal of obstacles that block the flow of
    God's abundant life (Jn 10:10).

B. Some truths that follow:

1. The more-or-less of healing

a. Healing is a process.
b. Degrees of giftedness. (Gifts can grow by being nourished.)

2. Examples of degrees of improvement:

a. Cessation or lessening of pain.
b. Removal of side effects of medical treatment.
c. Stabilization of illness without full healing.
d. Return of physical function without healing of
    the physical problem.
e. Full bodily healing.

C. Attitudes from knowing that life and healing come from God.

1. Use careful discernment. Never allow a supplicant to give up
medical treatment without their doctor's approval!

2. Humility: God works in a variety of ways, including medical treatment.

D. Obstacles that hinder healing:

1. On the part of the recipient:

a. Not believing God loves me and wants me well.
b. Holding onto an illness for its advantages.
c. The need for something else to happen first:

1. Repent of sin or offer forgiveness.
2. Inner healing.

2. On the part of the minister:

a. Not in close enough union with God.
b. Not the right healing minister.
c. Not enough knowledge about prayer and healing.
d. Not enough time/energy available.

Develop gifts for healing and growing in holiness.

A. Levels of equipment: click to see table below

1. Natural gifts, e.g., compassionate personality.
2. Supernatural gifts.

a. Virtues: God-given powers for our sanctification. They
enable us to behave and relate to God and to people
    in appropriate ways.
b. Charisms: God-given gifts for serving others (e.g., 1 Cor 12).
Caution: Do not focus solely on charisms to the neglect of the
    other two levels of gifts!

Conclusion:

A. God is the source of all life, health and healing.
B. Jesus has called us to continue his ministry.
