FHM Program Goals

Foster spiritual growth and maturity through a process of spiritual formation (self-reflection exercises, worship, discovery of gifts, daily private prayer).

Teach the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for effective ministry. Teachings are done via reading assignments and taped presentations. Outlines in a student handbook accompany each presentation. Reading assignments expand on the lecture material and group experiences.

Teach the value and process of team healing ministry.

Help students determine to what extent they are called by God to healing ministry. This includes discovery of their personal gifts through a reflection group process.

Participation in the Program

Each week, in small groups (four to eight people), one student describes a personal experience of helping a hurting person. The rest of the group reflects on the gifts they see in that student.

The process helps people become aware of gifts within themselves that they may not have recognized before, gifts they then can use with greater effectiveness in the future.

Components of the FHM Program

The Formation for Healing Ministry Program has five components. Follow links below to see sample pages for one presentation from the program:

  1. A Coordinator's Manual gives clear, in-depth instructions for conducting the program, which is designed for use by a team of 2 - 4 coordinators. The manual goes through a deliberate, step-by-step process of training. If followed carefully by a team of mature Christians, there is a high likelihood of achieving the goals of the program. (196 pages). Sample page from the Coordinator's Manual: Coordinator's Manual: Physical Healing
  2. A Student Handbook can be photocopied for each student. It contains all the information needed for full participation in the program: outlines of presentations, class schedules, and details for doing homework assignments. (114 pages). Sample page from the Student Handbook: Student Handbook Outline: Physical Healing
  3. A Coordinator's Workbook contains appendices and schedules to use during the program. It also contains the materials needed for training sessions for coordinators.
  4. A videotape demonstrates the reflection group process used in the program.
  5. 40 audiotapes (37 for students, 3 for coordinator training) present the knowledge and attitudes needed for this ministry. The following titles are a sample of the presentations:
  • Why and How Jesus Healed People
  • Affirmation
  • Four Kinds of Wounds
  • Physical Healing
  • Inner Healing
  • Spiritual Healing
  • Healing of Relationships
  • Ministering to Sick, Elderly and Shut-ins
  • Prayer Room Ministry
  • Discernment of Gifts
  • The Christian Life
  • How to Work Together as a Leadership Team (a presentation for coordinator training)
Note: Success in this program requires the commitment of several coordinators to serve God through this in-depth process of growth and leadership. FHM is not for those who seek quick results. Rather, it is for Christians -- coordinators and students -- who want to grow in maturity, knowledge and unconditional love so that they can bring God's gentle touch to a hurting world.
